A week-long leadership training programme designed for senior school students who aspire to leadership.
Who is running MaristYouthLeader?
MaristYouthLeader is presented by members of the JC Colin Project, and is organized and run by MaristYouthLeader graduates.
Who is it for?
MaristYouthLeader is for students in Marist colleges who are preparing to enter their final year at college. They will be students identified as potential leaders in their colleges.
How many students attend?
Groups of eight students each from St John’s College, Hastings, Hato Paora College, Feilding, St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, St Patrick’s College, Wellington, St Bede’s College, Christchurch, Marist College Auckland, Pompallier College Whangarei, Roncalli College Timaru, Aquinas College Tauranga, Challenge 2000, Wellington, Marist Regional College Tasmania, St John’s College, Lismore and Marist Sisters College, Sydney are invited to take part in MaristYouthLeader. Staff members from each of these schools will also take part in the programme. The programme run twice each summer and caters for up to one hundred and twenty students at a time.
What form does MaristYouthLeader take?
MaristYouthLeader is both mentally and physically challenging. It teaches the theory and practice of leadership, concentrating on individual leadership, leadership as part of a team, and personal challenge. Each section follows the pattern of “input, reflection, interaction, practice.” There is a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities.
How much does it cost?
The accommodation, catering and course costs for each student are $500. Through sponsorship, grants and fund-raising, programme costs are minimized as much as possible. Individual schools are responsible for the cost of travel.
What will I gain from MaristYouthLeader?
You will gain skills for leadership in a Catholic school setting, with a strong emphasis on doing things in the Marist way. You will have the opportunity to practice those skills in an environment of learning, encouragement and good fun. What you learn will serve you in life far beyond school.
